Planning a retest without forcing the entry
Write the pass and fail conditions before price returns to your level.
Mapping a level is incomplete until you know what a valid retest looks like. In class we use a short template.
- Approach — Does price return with momentum that still respects the broader structure, or is it a vertical spike that often overshoots?
- Evidence — Do you need a rejection candle, a hold into the close, or a lower-timeframe shift? Pick one rule and stick to it for the week.
- Fail — Where is the idea dead? A close beyond the zone by more than your tolerance means stand down — not “average in.”
If price never returns, that is not a failure of the map. Unused levels are normal. The error is inventing a new reason to enter halfway to the level because waiting felt dull.
Bring this template to mentorship with two historical examples: one retest you handled cleanly, and one you forced. The contrast teaches faster than theory alone.
